About the course

Build on what you already know

Advanced Open Water is the next step after Open Water. Rather than more classroom time, it is a set of five adventure dives, each one a taste of a different kind of diving.

Two of the dives are always the same: a deep dive and an underwater navigation dive. You choose the other three with your instructor. When you finish, you are certified to dive to 30 metres.

The course

Two days, five adventure dives

A deep dive, a navigation dive, and three more you choose with your instructor.

Day 1

Deep and navigation

The two required dives: a deep dive below 18 metres, and finding your way with a compass and natural features.

Day 2

Your three choices

Three adventure dives you pick with your instructor, such as buoyancy, drift, wreck, fish identification or photography.

A day on the boat

What a day on the boat looks like

7:30amHotel pickup, between 7:30 and 8:30am depending on where you stay

9amWelcome on board and a briefing, then the boat sets off

10:30amFirst dive, then lunch on board from 12pm

1pmSecond dive, then back at the marina around 3 to 4pm

Advanced Open Water is the course most divers take after their first certification. It is practical: no exams, just five dives with an instructor, each with a short piece of reading.

The deep dive

Your first dive below 18 metres, planned and led by your instructor. Completing the course lets you dive to 30 metres.

The navigation dive

Finding your way underwater with a compass and with what you can see around you, so you can always get back to the boat.

Your choices

All your diving equipment is included. If you have your own kit, you are welcome to bring it.

What to bring

Your Open Water certification. Bring your own equipment if you have it, or use ours.
