Snorkelling in Hurghada
More about snorkelling from the boat
Hurghada sits on the Red Sea coast of Egypt, and its reefs start close to the surface. That makes it an easy place to snorkel: you can see a great deal without ever going under.
What you might see
Hard and soft coral, reef fish, moray eels and lionfish, and with some luck turtles, rays or dolphins. What you see depends on the site and the day.
The water
The sea is about 22°C in winter and 29°C in summer. The best months are April to November.
What to bring
Swimwear, a towel, sun cream and a hat. A rash vest or T-shirt helps keep the sun off your back while you snorkel.
Travelling with divers
Snorkellers and divers share the boat, so a family or a group of friends can spend the day together, whatever each of them wants to do.
