About the day

Your first dives in the sea

The introductory dive is for people who want to try scuba diving before they commit to a course. There is nothing to study first: your instructor teaches you a few simple skills in shallow water, then takes you down to see the reef.

You make two dives during the day, both in shallow, calm water, with your instructor beside you the whole time. If you enjoy it, the next step is the Open Water course.

Trying diving in Hurghada

More about the introductory dive

An introductory dive is the simplest way to find out whether diving is for you. It is not a qualification: you dive with an instructor the whole time, and stay in shallow water.

Why Hurghada is a good place to try

Many of the sites close to Hurghada are shallow, calm and clear, with plenty of coral and fish within a few metres of the surface.

What you will learn

How to breathe from a regulator, how to clear water from your mask, how to equalise your ears, and the hand signals you use underwater.

What to bring

Swimwear, a towel, sun cream and a hat. The diving equipment is provided.

If you want to carry on

The PADI Open Water course is the first full qualification.
