About the course

Learn to dive properly, in three days

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the certification that lets you dive with a buddy, without an instructor, anywhere in the world. You learn the theory with PADI eLearning, practise the key skills in calm, shallow lagoons, then make four dives in the sea. Every day of the course is in the sea, never in a pool.

Your training is led by a PADI IDC Staff Instructor. Hurghada's calm, clear and warm water makes it a good place to learn.

Learning to dive in Hurghada

More about the Open Water course

Most people who learn to dive start with the PADI Open Water course. It is the first full certification, and once you hold it you can rent equipment, join dive trips and dive with a buddy to 18 metres anywhere in the world.

Why Hurghada is a good place to learn

The skills are practised in calm, shallow lagoons, and the open water dives are in the sea, never in a pool. The water is about 22°C in winter and 29°C in summer.

Theory before you travel

PADI eLearning is included, so you do the theory at home, at your own pace, and your days in Hurghada are spent in the water.

What to bring

Swimwear, a towel, sun cream and a hat. All diving equipment is included, or bring your own if you prefer.

After the course

Many divers go on to Advanced Open Water, which takes you to 30 metres over five adventure dives, or add a specialty such as Nitrox or Peak Performance Buoyancy.
